Description: A solvent free, two component, high build, tar modified liquid epoxy coating used for the protection of girth welds and damaged areas of coal tar enamel coated pipelines.

Benefits:
  • Simple, fast application
  • Able to be applied in harsh environments
  • Excellent mechanical properties
  • Outstanding resistance to cathodic disbondment
  • Cost effective with a long maintenance-free life
  • Used as a repair material for coal tar enamel coated pipelines
  • Excellent adhesion to bare steel, coal tar enamel, FBE and polyethylene

Surface Preparation: Ensure surfaces are clean and if possible completely dry. While wire brushing is acceptable, grit blasting to a minimum of Sa 2.5 (surface profile of 75 to 100 microns) is preferred for optimum high build performance. Rusted steel should be high pressure fresh water jetted to remove contaminants (salts, etc.) before undertaking dry surface preparation to the best practicable standard, followed by application of Metrocoat TE Joint Primer coat if necessary.

Appearance: Metrocoat TE3 Jointing Compound is black in color and supplied in 0.6 kg or 1.2 kg premeasured packs. Metrocoat TE Joint Primer is brown in color and supplied in one liter or five liter packs.
Girth Weld Application:
  • Mix base and activator together at ambient temperature, ensuring that a uniform blend is achieved.
  • Stripe coat weld seam and overlap area.
  • Brush apply the material to the steel with an overlap of approximately 50 mm onto the parent coating.
  • Two coats are recommended to ensure 100% coverage and optimum protection, each coat should be controlled to between 250 and 500 microns.

Repair Procedures:
  • Ensure damaged area is free from debris and other surface contaminants.
  • Prepare repair area using appropriate techniques.
  • Brush apply a primer coat to the damaged area and approximately 50 mm
  • Apply the Metrocoat TE3 Jointing Compound taking every precaution to avoid air entrapment.
